South Carolina Uniform Grading Scale
- The State Board of Education adopted a uniform grading policy for South Carolina public schools.
- All report cards and transcripts will use numerical grades for courses carrying Carnegie units.
- The uniform grading scale and system for figuring GPA and class rank will apply to all courses carrying Carnegie units, including units earned at the middle school.
- GPA = sum(quality points X units)/sum of units attempted.
Class Ranking
Class rank considers the following:
• Based on the South Carolina Uniform Grading Scale.
• Ranks all academic classes at the end of each academic year (9th, 10th, 11th, 12th).
• Includes the entire class. If the entire class is not included when calculating class rank, then rank cannot be considered for state scholarships.
Academic Lettering
Lettering is a strong tradition at Chapin High School. Students may earn a letter through athletics and/or academics. The academic letter encourages students to take ownership of their educational plan and give their best effort in school. Students may earn an academic letter by maintaining all As from 9th grade through the end of first semester 12th grade.
